Rising table tennis star, Kaysan Ninvalle, endorsed the view of the experts that he has special talent when he defeated Colin Wong in three straight sets, 11-1,11-1,11-8, to capture the honours in the U-9 category when the curtains came down on the 2014 edition of the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) Independence Table Tennis Tournament staged in conjunction with the National Sports Commission at the National Gymnasium. Mandela Avenue, May 16-18 last. Dhanesh Persaud occupied the third place.
Cieara Sukhu was also in winners’ row and firstly defeated Thuraia Thomas 11-8, 11-3, 11-8 before taking care of Chelsea Hutson 11-2,11-6,11-9 to prevail in the Girls 9 years and under category, while Thomas defeated Hutson 11-5,5-11,9-11,11-4,11-8 to finish second with Hutson finishing third.
Keshon Reese prevailed over Samuel Woodroffe to take the novice title, winning their encounter 11-8, 11-13, 11-8; 11-5, while Ashesh Shivraj and Denel Inniss jointly occupied the third place.
The Boys’ U-11 title went to Niron Bissu who defeated Kaysan Ninvalle, who moved up in age category to take the bigger boys, in a fiercely competitive match that was decided after a thrilling five-set encounter 14-12,7-11, 11-5,8-11,12-10 (3-2). Joint third place went to Colin Wong and Joshua Khan. Nevaeh Clarkston then won the Girls’ U-11 category after defeating Abigale Martin 11-8,11-9,11-8 and Cieara Sukhu 11-7,11-2,11-6; the latter two finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Selenas Jackman had a fairly easy win in the girls’ under-13 final against Nevaeh Clarkston, winning the encounter 3-1 at 11-8, 8-11, 11-6 and 11-9, while Aneka Phillips and Brittney Bunbury were joint third place finishers.

In the semifinals clash Clarkston defeated Phillips 11-8,11-9,4-11,11-7 while Jackman defeated Bunbury 14-12,11-4,11-3.
The Boy’s 13 years and under duel between Khalil Ninvalle and Tyriq Saunders was won by the former player 12-10,14-12,11-9, while Saunders closed off the second slot. Kaysan Ninvalle and Jeremy Singh were the joint third place
winners. Saunders had defeated Kaysan Ninvalle 9-11,11-3,6-11,12-10,11-9 in the semifinals, while Ninvalle defeated Singh 9-11,13-11,11-3,11-5. In the quarterfinal encounter, Kaysan Ninvalle defeated Terrence Rausch 3-11,11-3,11-8,11-8 and Saunders defeated Amit Mookram 8-11,11-5,11-7,8-11,11-8. Khalil Ninvalle beat Nickolas Romain 11-4,11-4,11-9, while Singh defeated Niran Bissu 11-4,11-3,11-3.
Priscilla Greaves defeated Kristie Lopes at 11-3,11-4,11-5 to take the Girl’s 15 years and under title, while the joint third place winners are Selenas Jackman and Jamaali Homer. In the semifinals Greaves defeated Jackman 11-8,12-10,11-4, while Lopes beat Homer 11-4 11-8, 11-8.

18 years girls’ finals: Chelsea Edghill defeated Priscilla Greaves 11-8,11-5,11-9 while joint third place went to Kristie Lopes and Jamaali Homer. Shemar Britton defeated Elishaba Johnson in the finals of the Boy’s U-18 category, while joint third place went to Stefan Corlette and Sheldon Atherly. In the semifinals Britton defeated Corlette 11-7,11-6,11-7, while Johnson defeated Atherly 11-9,11-6,8-11,11-5. In the quarterfinals Britton defeated Jeremy Singh 11-6,11-3,11-4, while Corlette defeated Kristoff Sukhu 11-7,11-9,11-7. Atherly defeated Alec Hopkinson 11-2,6-11,12-10,11-9, while Johnson defeated Kevon Corbin 11-6,11-8,11-7.
The Junior girls’ doubles finals was won by Chelsea Edghill/Kristie Lopes over Selenas Jackman/ Nevaeh Clarkston at 11-8,11-5,11-9, while third place was jointly shared by Simran Bissu/Brittney Bunbury and Jamaali Homer/Priscilla Greaves.
Activities continue on Friday 23rd with the match between the 21 years and under in the open category from 16:00 hours and on Saturday 24th with the Boys’ and Mixed Doubles from 10:00 hrs and Men and Women’s Singles from 13:00 hours. On Sunday 25, the finals of the Men and Women Singles would be contested from 10:00 hours, while the presentation of prizes gets underway from 17:00hrs.
