Barnwell slams century, 5-wkt hauls for Atwell, Ramjattan and Jacobs
Everest and Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) grabbed first innings points from Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC), respectively, when the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/Hadi’s World City Mall Inc first division 2-day tournament continued last weekend.
At DCC, the home team batted first and were bowled out for 142 in 53 overs with
Tevin Imlach scoring 33. Troy Gonsalves grabbed 4-40, Harri Narine 3-36 and Christopher Surat 3-45. Everest replied with 168 all out in 58 overs. Joseph Perry cracked 57 not out, Darshan Persaud and Chanderpaul Hemraj 31 each. Left arm spinner Totaram Bishun claimed 4-46 and Christopher Barnwell 2-39.
Trailing by 26 runs, DCC rattled up 300-9 declared off 45 overs, batting a second time. Barnwell stroked ten fours and two sixes in an unbeaten 105, while Jahon Byron supported with 74 and Trevon Griffith 52. Hemraj picked up 4-49 and Gonsalves 4-150 off 21 overs to finish the game with 8-190.
Set 276 to win, the visitors managed to hold on for a draw ending on 199-9 in 55 overs on the final day. Perry slammed 89 not out and Hemraj 77; Antonell Atwell grabbed 5-32.
At MSC, GYO posted 233 before they were bowled out in 52 overs batting first. Garfield De Roche slammed 68, while Anthony Ifill made 48, Divesh Ramjattan 32 and Abdool Raheem 25. Steven Jacobs bagged 5-60.
MSC replied with 209 all out in 40.2 overs. Shemroy Barrington scored 51, Kareem Naughton 45 and Nickosie Barker 31. Off spinner Ramjattan was the main wicket taker with 5-43. Leading by 24, GYO scored 222 all out in their second turn at the crease. Ifill led with 65, Surendra Hiralall made 45 and Kwame Crosse 31. Jacobs claimed 3-41 while Benedict Prince, Cordell Mars and 11 year old debutant Wayne Bowlers Jnr took two apiece. Needing 246 to win from a minimum of 33 overs, MSC were 180-6 when stumps were drawn.
Barrington, who led with 64 and Nickosie Barker (54) put their team on course with a first wicket stand of 113, but when they were separated, GYO bowlers made inroads into the MSC batting with only Kareem Naughton (27) of the other batsmen reaching double figures. Ramjattan snared 4-67 to finish with figures of 9-110 while Crosse had two wickets. (Zaheer Mohamed).
