PMTC Red defeated the Upper Corentyne Industrial Training Centre (UCITC) 30-28 to seal off the top spot in the male category when the finals of the BVA Inter School Volleyball Competition concluded at the Port Mourant Training
Centre Courts April 9 last.
UTITC had to settle for second place while JC Chandisingh Secondary (JCCSS) sealed off the final podium position after defeating Canje Secondary School (CSS) 25-4. JCCSS shrugged aside its third place spot in the male category and rebounded with a win over CSS 15-11, to capture the honours in the female category.
The respective winners convened at the J.C. Chandisingh Secondary School Tuesday afternoon last where Competition Coordinator, Godwyn Allicock, handed over the prizes to the respective winners with assistance from Quacy Matheson, Jason Seelochan and Javed Motiepersaud.
Mr. Allicock congratulated the teams and encouraged them to continue practicing in preparation of the National Schools Competition scheduled for later this year.
The Competition Coordinator said that while he was heartened with the general participation level, he was somewhat peeved that only one Primary School enrolled for that segment of the tournament.
He was also a bit disappointed that only two of the participating secondary schools fielded female players but said that he was otherwise pleased with the response.
The first place winners in both categories each received a trophy and a Mikasa MVA 330 ball donated
by the National Sports Commission and the BVA respectively while the second place finisher received a ball and a FIVB net. JCCSS received a MVA 330 ball for their third place spot.
The BVA also presented two Mikasa kids’ balls to Physical Education teacher of the Corentyne Comprehensive Secondary School, Carl Vanier, to assist in that school’s volleyball development programme.
The organizers said that they will plan another school’s competition just as soon as the CSEC examinations are completed.
