Fizul Habiban, the man who miraculously survived a fall from a four-storey building on Wednesday afternoon was discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) yesterday.
Many have expressed surprise that the 40-year-old man of Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD) survived such a fall with no broken bones or any internal injuries.
Reports are that Habiban, who worked as a labourer on a building which is under construction at the corner of East and New Market Streets, Georgetown, was at the time lifting steel rods onto the fourth storey when he fell.
According to information, the 40-year-old man accidentally hit one of the overhead electrical wires with the steel rod and was shocked instantly. He lost balance as a result.
Habiban was not wearing any protective gear.
Yesterday, the man’s wife, Sita Habiban said that she will not allow her husband to work at that site any more.
She claimed that since the incident no one from the building contacted her to offer their sympathy.
“I will not let him work there again. Up to now I still don’t know who the owner is. The only call I received, was one saying I should go to the hospital and that is it.”
Workers who spoke to this publication on Wednesday said, “All of a sudden he start swaying and before we coulda rush to him he fall off from the top floor and onto the concrete ground, and he just stay there. We thought he dead but when we rush down he raise up and start crying out for his belly.”
Habiban was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation for immediate medical attention.
In a brief interview with this publication, Habiban on his hospital bed said that he survived the accident with just a few minor scrapes, burns and a tummy ache, and it is proof that God has a purpose for him to fulfill.
“When I fall I swear to you I saw the Heavens above. God talk to me and he tell me fuh love me wife. I am going to be more supportive to my wife Sita. She is all I have. I love her dearly.”
