Dear Editor,
Kindly permit me to ask the following question; Where are the members of the police force that stand for justice, do they exist? As an ordinary citizen, it is very difficult to analyze the culture of the police force without coming to the conclusion; they are in it together, they protect their own. So, if the police protect their own, who will protect the people from the rotten apples? Being a victim of police brutality myself, I can remember countless police officers of various ranks empathizing with me in private. However, I do not remember a single rank publicly condemning the actions of their colleagues. Is there a written/unwritten rule that states members of the force should not openly condemn police brutality or is it part of the culture? I firmly believe that not only us citizens should be protesting these heinous acts, members of the force with conscience and with the betterment of our country at heart need to stand up. As an ordinary citizen, I will do my part and use any outlet available to bring light to this issue plaguing our nation. I hope the men and women in uniform that have what it takes, join me and do their part.
