The Guyana Squash Association (GSA), in collaboration with its corporate sponsor Digicel Guyana, National Junior Squash Championships sponsored by Woodpecker Products Ltd. continued on Wednesday evening, day two at the Georgetown Club.
Some exciting matches were witnessed with one of the feature games of the evening involving Shemane Griffith, a 14-year-old Guyanese now living in Barbados and one of the top juniors in Guyana, Alec Melville.
Griffith has improved tremendously during the past two years and this was evident during the match. Griffith won the first game 11-9, but Melville evened things up with a hard fought 11-9 win in the second game. Griffith came out like a boy possessed in the third to sweep the set 11-0.
Melville however dug deep and won the fourth game 11-7 but Shemane was not to be denied and won the fifth and deciding game 11-8 creating the first major upset of the tournament.
Makeda Harding continued her impressive performance over the last few months with a hard fought 3-1 victory over Savannah Mendes scores being 11-4, 9-11, 11-6, 12-10.

Michael Alphonso defeated Ethan Jonas 11-13, 11-4, 11-7
Shomari Wiltshire trounced Dominic Collins 11-2, 11-2

Anthon Islam beat John Phang 11-4, 11-1, 11-8
Daniel Islam got past Lucas Jonas 11-2, 11-5, 11-7
Shomari Wiltshire beat Gianni Carpenter 11-3, 11-2, 11-2
Girls Under 13/15
