Pupils who participated in the 2014 National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) can prepare to be enlightened of their performances by next month end. This is according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Education yesterday.
The statement noted that in keeping with an earlier promise, the results will be available by Friday, June 27, 2014. It was pointed out too that “with a view of streamlining the efficient delivery of results, this year the pupils, parents and school administrations knew the date by which the results would be out (even) before the commencement of the NGSA.”
The NGSA was held on Wednesday, April 16 and Thursday, April 17, 2014 at centres across Guyana with just over 15,000 candidates participating. They were assessed in the four subject areas of English Language, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, each of which consisted of two papers.
Moreover, the Ministry in its statement sought to inform that the marking of the NGSA papers have been completed.
Currently, the marked examination scripts are being processed nationally, and all systems are in place and functioning optimally to guarantee the release of the results as promised.
The unveiling of the examination last year was arguably the earliest the NGSA (formerly Common Entrance) results were unveiled. The NGSA results were unveiled on June 7, 2013, with Salma Majeed of the ISA Islamic Academy being the top performing candidate. She scored 548 points out of a possible 560.
The planned release of the 2014 NGSA results, according to the Ministry, represents the second consecutive year that it will fulfil a promise to make an early announcement. This was attributed to the continued enhancement of the overall quality management processes of the examination.
Meanwhile, pupils who were involved in a vehicular accident at Orangestein, East Bank of Essequibo, on the second day of the NGSA will reportedly be able to complete the examination sometime after the results of the rest of the country is unveiled. At least three pupils were hospitalized following the accident which claimed the life of one man. The pupils were on their way to the Academy of Excellence at Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara.
Superintendent of Examination, Saudia Kadir, had assured this publication that measures would be put in place to ensure that the children complete the Assessment when the time is right.
Two of the injured girls involved in the accident are still at home nursing injuries to their legs.
According to reports reaching this publication, the pupils will possibly be able to complete the examination by July.
The Ministry in the meantime is advising parents of Grade Two pupils that the National Grade Two Assessment will commence on Monday June 9, 2014, and conclude on Friday June 20, 2014.
The latter assessment is conducted in two parts – oral and written – and according to the Ministry it is urging parents to ensure that they help in the preparation of their children for this very important assessment.
Parents of Grade Four children are also being reminded that the National Grade Four Assessment will take place on Wednesday June 18 and Thursday June 19, 2014. The National Grade Nine Assessment will commence on Tuesday June 17 and conclude on Thursday June 20, 2014.
