It is one of the longest presentation ceremonies one would witness but yet necessary for recognizing the efforts of shooters who would have competed in blistering sun over five long, demanding days of shooting.
When President of the JRA Major Retired John Nelson welcomed guests, special invitees including Major General of the Jamaica Defence Force Anthony Anderson, who is also Patron of the JRA and the delegations from the competing teams, he did prepare all for what turned out to be a compact evening with the shooters being rewarded for their efforts.
Undisputed KINGS of the Caribbean, Guyana, strolled away with 64 individual prizes, the most by any of the competing nations which included host Jamaica, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Bermuda and Canada.
Three-time Caribbean Individual champion, Guyanese Lennox Braithwaite led the podium appearances, retaining this accolade for the third consecutive year starting here in Guyana in 2012 and Barbados, last year.
Braithwaite also secured the Overall Aggregate prizes on day one and two as well as the Overall Short Range Aggregate in the ‘X’ Class. The leading marksman, who will now turn attention to the Commonwealth Games along with National Captain Mahendra Persaud and Manager Ransford Goodluck, also won the prestigious Wogart Trophy as the leading scorer in the Short Range Team match, enabling Guyana to reclaim the championship from Jamaica.
US based Guyanese Sigmund Douglas was second overall in ‘O’ Class with a Grand Aggregate of 358 points and 17 V-bulls edging out compatriot Leo Ramalho who had a similar amount of points but less Vs, 15. The winner was Karen Anderson of Jamaica with an overall score of 361 points and 13 Vs.
Sherwin Felicien who enjoyed a good outing on debut was second in the Tyro (‘T’ or Beginners Class) totaling 342 points with 13 Vs; this class was won by Jamaican Dwayne Forde who accumulated 351 points and 18 Vs.
