Dear Sports Editor,
Congratulations to you and your staff for allowing us the public some space in your newspaper at this critical juncture of our football. The state of football in Guyana makes us sick but during my kite flying experience in the National Park I was approached by two of my very good buddies and before I could get my kids’ kites up, football took over the conversation.
Sir our debate was on the fact that to date FIFA has not taken any action against Chuck Blazer and most recently none against the new President of the CFU for misuse of funds of the Antigua Football Association. Is the FIFA Ethics Committee dead or conveniently so? Where is President Blatter in all this or is it really true that FIFA is a Mafia as has been stated many times in the past? Why then were Mr Klass and Mr Adonis suspended for non-disclosures, while Mr. Burrell was given a suspended sentence? How convenient after returning monies which he said he had collected? Is FIFA for real?
During our discussion, we all concluded that GFF President Matthias is out of his league and much too egoistic for the job. He also carries lots of baggage. Being vindictive is never good for any Public Office; humility goes a very far way. On the other hand his best pal Ojeer needs to provide to this Nation his coaching certificate which he claimed to have obtained in England and the reason why he was returned to Guyana.
On this note I must congratulate you our President Ramotar for your role in advising and instructing Mr. Lumumba that as your Presidential Adviser he can’t run for the GFF Presidency. Sir, congratulations are in order since this will also be conflict of interest and Governmental interference in accordance with the rule of FIFA, CONCACAF and the CFU.
Mr. Ninvalle should also be asked to resign from the Boxing Board for the very same reason. He must serve all the sports without any bias.
Mr. President you need to take control of your troops or they would embarrass you and destroy this Nation that we love and you do too. Looking back, our referees were always better off during Klass and Wilson’s administration. When was the last time our referees and officials, since (Dianne Ferreira) James left the game, were appointed to any World Class tournament or competitions? Our football development enjoyed its best under Klass and Wilson with little or no assistance from the Government of the day.
We need a team of our best people tried and proven to take back our football and restore some creditability to our Nation’s football. We are calling upon the CFU and CONCACAF to save our football from the worst dilemma of this decade and from these power crazy and greedy individuals.
Football needs to remain independent and outside of any form of Government influence and control. Government, Private Sector and administrators of football need to play their individual roles for the good of the game. Guyana is independent and football and all other sports should remain independent. Most of our sports are in a mess and need urgent medical assistance and treatment not egoistic men and women.
Sir, I am looking forward to having my views shared as in the previous cases where you were able to entertain other viewpoints. The People of Guyana in football and sports deserve better.
Friends of football
