A 70-year-old sales manager was killed at around 06.45 hrs yesterday after crashing into a utility pole on the Diamond, East Bank Demerara access road.
Police identified the victim as John Teixeira, of 762 Section B, Diamond, East Bank Demerara. A relative said that Teixeira was employed as a sales manager with Patsan Trading Services. He was reportedly heading home when the crash occurred.
A relative speculated that the elderly man, who lived alone and was a father of five, may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
According to police, Teixeira was heading east along the Diamond access road at a fast rate when he lost control of his vehicle and slammed into the utility pole.
Police said that the injured man was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he succumbed.
