Known for having by far the best facilities in the horseracing circle in Guyana, the principals of the Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) are bent on keeping that status as they try to raise the standard of the sport.
The club situated at Bush Lot farm on the Corentyne is the venue on Sunday 18th May for their annual pre Independence one day horserace meet at the club’s Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne Berbice.
With the prevailing dry weather prolonging and the acquiring of a new tractor the facilities are expected to be in the best of condition and some fast time are expected.
The 6 race meet which has close to $3.5M in trophies and cash incentives at stake has so far attracted over 60 entries.
The feature D 1 and lower 1 mile event has so far attracted some of the best in the business as they set to compete for the $500,000 and trophy on offer. Horses such as Treacle, Milwaukee Blitz, In Seattle, Fresh Again, Run Nana Run, Some Legend, Red and Lovely, It’s My turn, City Tune and Stormy Flame have already entered their name to take the arena by storm in their quest for the top money.
The other events on the day are for animals classified G1 and lower with the winner set to take home $300,000 and trophy over 6F. This race also has a large field in Damascus Dream, Quiet Strom, No Body Wants me, Gold Rush, Wild Grinder, Princess Page, Rosetta, Bridal Stone Corner and Super Bowl.
There is a race for three and four year old Guyana and West Indies Bred maiden animals which also has a winning purse of $300,000 and trophy up for the taking. The entries include Bunny Signs, Triple, Key for the Killer, Swift way, Nobre Import, Royal cash and Little.
The race for the ‘I’ class animals carries a winning purse of $250,000 and trophy over 7 Furlongs with the likes of Mary Ann, Funny Side, Famous Pride, Party Time, Prince Bayaya, Speed Vision, Windy Killer and De Gump set to compete.
The two J class races on the day’s card are both over six furlongs. The J1 race has a winning purse of $200,000 and trophy.
There J3 and lower contest will see the animals compete for a winning purse of $150,000 and trophy.
Other top horses set to compete are Cat Messiah and Wild Grinder.
The outstanding jockeys, trainers and stables will all received trophies and other accolades compliments of Ramesh Sunich of Trophy Stall, Bourda Market and the organisers.
Horse owners, trainers, grooms and others interested in entering their horses have a few days left to do so since entries are set to close on Sunday May 11th.
