The 2013 Ramcharitar Construction Services First Division 50 overs knockout cricket competition continued last Saturday in Berbice with all of the three scheduled third round matches being played off resulting in Police, Port Mourant and Young Warriors Universal DVD all winning their respective matches to advance to the semi-finals.
In a stunning upset, the lowly placed Police turned the tables to knock out one of the favourites Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets. Led by Albert Sinclair who made 62 (5 fours and 1 six) and who put on 112 for the 3rd wicket with Kwesi Mickle (34), Police posted 214 in 43.5 overs with former Guyana under-19 cricketer Dominique Rikhi, bowling off-spin, picking up 4 for 32 from 8.5 overs.
When Rose Hall replied, Rikhi made 29 and all rounder Rajiv Ivan 36 to position their team to need just 4 runs for victory with two wickets left in the last over. However, offspinner Rocky Hutson ensured that Troy Matheson and Simeon Lawson could only get one.
After Universal Solutions Bermine were seemingly well placed at 111 for 3 against Port Mourant, left arm spinner Bishram Deolall and offspinner Samuel Kesnasammy picked up three wickets each to restrict them to 154 all out in 43 overs. When Port Mourant replied, former Guyana youth cricketer batsman Troy Gonsalves utterly destroyed the Bermine bowling, hitting 80 in just 38 balls, including 10 fours and 4 massive sixes to lead Port Mourant to an 8-wicket victory in just 14.1 overs.
Videsh Singh slammed 52 (5 fours and 2 sixes) to guide Young Warriors Universal DVD to a modest 135 in 34.3 overs against West Berbice with offspinner Andre Dutchin picking up 4 for 17 from 7 overs. When West Berbice replied, they were bowled out for just 103 with former Berbice under-19 wicketkeeper-batsman and offspinner Ishwar Singh picked up 4 for 22 from 5 overs.
Albion Community Centre is the other team in the semi-final by virtue of a bye after defeating Blairmont Community Centre in the first round.
