Justice Franklyn Holder, on Tuesday, freed accused Errol Dainty of rape after a unanimous verdict was returned by the jury in the Suddie High Court.
Dainty, a security officer attached at Citizens Bank, Essequibo branch, was initially accused on February 16, 2011, of raping his then 11-year-old neighbour.
The victim, who is now 15 years old, had told the police that Dainty had raped her while she was a frequent visitor of the man’s Queenstown home.
Dainty, however, in his caution statement to the court, denied raping the minor but told the court that the then 11-year-old would often come over to his residence to view television and iron his clothes.
The security guard and former pastor also said that he never touched his neighbor, further insinuating that he has no knowledge of the accusation leveled at him by the minor.
Dainty was represented by Hemraj Rajkumar.
