National long distance athlete, Cleveland Forde, registered a commendable overall timing of 32:38secs to capture the honours in the male open category when a team of local athletes competed in the Telesur 10K meet in neighboring Suriname Thursday May 1 last.
Alicia Fortune clocked 50:07secs to finish second in the 35-40 years category, while Andrea Foster emulated her feat to dominate the female junior category even as she eclipsed her previous personal best record of 44:00secs to 42:19secs.
Notwithstanding, Guyana placed third overall with American, Eulene Tanner, carting off the top spoils in 40:12secs. Another Guyanese, Alika Morgan, clocked 41:43secs to finish in the 2nd place with junior male athlete, Carl McKenzie finishing second.
Cleveland Thomas and Kelvin Johnson clocked 32:52secs and 33:14secs to finish 2nd and 3rd respectively, while Llewellyn Gardner dominated the 55-60 years Category in 41:48secs. Cyrlees Phillips completed the journey in 51:12secs to seal off the second place in the 45-50 years category.
Meanwhile, Fortune, who divulged the results to Kaieteur Sport, said that 10 local athletes attended the meet. She said that the same group is expected to return to Nickerie, Suriname on May 17 next to compete in the second leg of the meet.
