Cognizant that educated coaches will redound to the solid development of the game holistically, The East Demerara Football Association in collaboration with the Guyana National Football Coaches Association yesterday launched a 3-day Coaches Workshop at the Buxton Community Centre.
Presidents of the EDFA, Guyana Football Federation and GNFCA, Aubrey Hutson, Christopher Matthias and Wayne Dover all delivered remarks at yesterday’s opening and agreed that the continued development of coaches must be high on the agenda as their soundness would transfer into more quality players.

Matthias noted that coaches must have a vision and a plan whilst understanding their roles and responsibilities. He also noted that coaches have a responsibility as teachers of the game.
The GFF President noted that is the aim of the federation to ensure each club has qualified coaches. Dover in his remarks reminded that coaches have an important role to play in the development of the game in Guyana.
He said that his association will work closely with the GFF to chart the way for real coach’s development, while noting that coaches are mentors and must be good role models.
Dover, who is at the helm of Guyana’s most successful club Alpha United, informed that his association will continue to place a high premium on coaches education since it will translate into improved players and an improved game for Guyana.
He also informed that the GNFCA would have collaborated with a number of entities to educate coaches including Digicel for their massive school’s tournament, Petra Organisation for the Milo tournament, Kashif & Shanghai for the Chico competition and Scotiabank/Pepsi for their ongoing Academy.
Two coaches, Joseph Wilson and Brian Joseph were recently sent to Lethem by Digicel to conduct a programme there as preparations continue for this year’s competition.
