Will up and coming Berbice cyclist Andrea ‘Padlock’ Green who has been in ripping form this season so far with a number of convincing victories on the road be able to maintain his winning ways? That question and more will be answered tomorrow when the Flying Ace Cycle Club along with coach Randolph Roberts organize yet another even for cyclist in the ancient county. This is the seventh event that has been organized by the FACC and Roberts for the year so far.
The event, which is a 50-mile affair, is sponsored by two of Berbice leading sponsors in Furniture World of Main and King Street New Amsterdam and the First Impression Hotel of Hampshire Corentyne Berbice. The two sponsors have stuck to their word to help with sponsorship for cycling events in the Ancient County as often as possible.
The race which is expected to pedal off at 08:30hrs from in front of Furniture World at Main and King Street New Amsterdam and race to the No 43 Bridge before turning back to finish at main and Alexander Street New Amsterdam.
Prizes will be awarded to the first eight finishers and the first two female’s riders to cross the finishing. There will also be eight prime point prizes up for grabs. The females will race from Nand Persaud on the Corentyne.
According to Roberts, the race will be used as a warm up for the Berbice cyclist who are preparing for the annual Independence three stage cycle race set for 17th and 18th May.
Cyclist from both the FACC and Trojan Cycle clubs are expected to renew battle with the likes of Andrea ‘Padlock’ Green, Ray Millington, the Crawford cousins Romallo and Jebon, Elijah Brijadder, Andrew Hicks, Wasim Hassnu, Audrel Ross, Edmond Francis, Keith Griffith, Gary Benjamin, Turhan Harris and Syborne Fernandes among others.
Top female cyclist Marica Dick, who is making a comeback, is also expected to be on the saddles.
The sponsors are expected to be on hand to help with the distribution of the prizes at the end of the race.
