City based Little Diva Flames Football Club (LDFFC) defied all odds to end second in the just concluded 5-a-side football tournament held in Lethem over the Easter weekend at the St. Ignatius ground.
Playing in unfamiliar territory, the Divas won their first game against St. Ignatius 2-1. St. Ignatius scored first but the Little Divas led by Captain Jennel Brown, who had an outstanding game, pulled back one.
Star striker Althea Holligan scored a beauty of a shot, dribbling two players to give her team the lead 2 – 1 at half time. The final whistle came and the jubilant Divas, made up of school aged girls, rejoiced in victory.
In game two, Divas drew with the experienced and mighty Bon Fin Female team 1-1. Scoring first was the Divas through the energetic and skillful West Demerara based Abiose Heywood who hit a low shot to the first post that had goal written all over it. Bon Fin fought hard for the equalizer.
In the third game, LDFFC came up against Gladiators of Culvert City and the two played to an entertaining and exciting 0-0 draw. Divas goalkeeper Melana Peters had an outstanding game, bringing off some superb saves that kept her team in the game.
At the conclusion of the games, Bon Fin Females emerged winners with two wins and a draw (7 points), LDFFC earned 5 points for second while the Gladiators ended with 4 points for third.

The President and Executives of the club are extending gratitude to New Guyana Pharmaceutical Corporation, Ministry of Culture Youth & Sport, Director of Sport Neil Kumar, GUYOIL, Palace De Leon Hotel, Windjammer Hotel, Two Brothers Gas Station, Carlton Beckles of Lethem, Dr. George Norton, Vanessa Dickson and the Toshao of Lethem for their assistance which made the trip a success.
The club will resume training next Tuesday at the GFC ground from 16:30hrs. Plans are in train for a visit to Essequibo in July and Suriname in December.
