TravelSpan adds second aircraft
TravelSpan is adding another aircraft to its direct flights between Georgetown and New York.
According to the company, the aircraft, a second 767/300, will help to support the extra flights that have been added for the July to August period.
“The intention behind this move is to build a reliable air service for the people of Guyana,” said TravelSpan GT Inc. in a release yesterday.
The company, in collaboration with the US-owned, Vision Airline, is currently offering a wide- body 767/200 aircraft for its non-stop service between Guyana and the US. 
“This new larger 767/300 aircraft allows for a more spacious interior and extra legroom. The second aircraft, which operated JFK-GEO-JFK, this past Saturday, is configured with 30-seat Business Class with full reclining bed seats and 191 Economy seats.
The company currently has flights scheduled every Tuesday and Saturday and for the July and August peak season- Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
The company also has flights scheduled for Port of Spain, Trinidad for Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays for July and August.
In December, TravelSpan returned commercial flights to local skies after a five-year absence. It came at a time when Guyana badly needed extra seats for the Georgetown/New York route.
Prior to TravelSpan return, Guyana had been depending on the Trinidad-owned Caribbean Airlines and Fly Jamaica, an airline based in Jamaica and is partially owned by Guyanese pilot, Ronald Reece.
Guyana has been pulling out all stops to attract additional operators after low cost carriers RedJet and then EZjet folded in 2012.
US-owned Delta Airlines also pulled out earlier last year, leaving Caribbean Airlines the only operator on the critical Georgetown/New York route.
Fares jumped to a high of US$1,600 at one time, forcing Government to summon Caribbean Airlines to a meeting.
