The 2013 New Building Society (NBS) second division 40 overs competition continued recently with pacer Alan Johnson, who plays for No.3 of West Berbice, picking up 8-12 runs from 6 overs to decimate debutants Monedderlust for a meager 36 runs. No. 3 just needed 3.2 overs to complete a 10 wicket victory.
Pacer Keith Raju had 5-25 to help No.1 Road bowl out Kendall’s Union ‘A’ for 102. Kendall’s Union struck back with off-spinner Baichan Deonarine snaring 6-15 from 7 overs and pacer Samuel Baker 4-27 from 6.1 overs to bowl out No.1 for 46 in reply.
Berbice Under-19 batsman David Latchaya slammed the first century of the competition, 117 for Albion Community Centre, leading them to 253-7 against Guns and Cannons of Rose Hall Town.
The Guns and Cannons never got fired up and were knocked over for 31 in reply, Berbice Under-17 pacer Kavendra Persaud took 5-22 and Under-17 pacer Balchand Baldeo bowling off spin grabbed 4-9.
Romesh Boodram hit 81 (7×4 5×6) and Iswar Singh 51* (5×4 1×6) to help Cotton Tree Die Hard post 316-6 in 35 overs against D’Edward Warriors who were sent packing for 66. Some other batsmen scoring half centuries during the latest round of matches were Imran Khan of Chesney and Kunal Mangal of Tamarind Root.

At Albion – Albion Community Centre banged Guns and Cannons by 222 runs. Albion Community Centre 253-7 in 40 overs; David Latchaya 117,Balchand Baldeo 42, Rakesh Umroa 42, Subramani Budhoo 2-44. Guns and Cannons 31 in 10 overs; Kavendra Persaud 5-22, Balchan Baldeo 4-9.
At Cotton Tree – Cotton Tree Die Hard pummeled D’Edward Warriors by 250 runs, Cotton Tree Die Hard 316-6 in 35 overs; Romesh Boodram 81, Iswar Singh 51*,Permaul Singh 40, Pooran Persaud 37, Nashad Gaffoor 36*. D’Edward Warriors 66 in 23 overs; Roshan Gaffoor 4-10.
At Chesney – Chesney beat Sand Reef by 49 runs. Chesney 192 in 31.3 overs; Imran Khan 53, Anesh Deonarine 39, Annand Singh 3-34 , Hemraj Ramsaroop 2-47. Sand Reef 143 in 31.3 overs; Hemchand Jhagroo 26, Narine Deonarine 4-15, Devindra Harilall 2-22, Zameer Khan 2-27.
