After several violent encounters between two neighbours in North Sophia, things heated up yesterday when Molotov cocktails (channa bombs) were thrown into a house leaving a couple and two children traumatized.
Facility Benjamin points to where the channa bomb was thrown into her house shattering the louvre windows.
Police apprehended the perpetrator identified as Cedric Dash, who was also scheduled to attend court yesterday for assaulting the said neighbour on several occasions. He was apprehended by police and in court yesterday, was remanded to prison by Magistrate Faith McGusty.
The traumatized Facility Benjamin, of 85 “T” North Sophia Squatting Area said that she has been living at the said address for the past 15 years, which they bought from the previous owner. Cedric Dash, a relative of the previous owner, claimed to have inherited the property.
“This man beat me with a piece of metal pipe before. On July 2012, he stabbed my husband who is a policeman. My husband was hospitalized and the matter was before the court. He also molested my two daughters and I had to go to the Child Care Agency. This man is crazy,” Benjamin lamented.
She said that her two daughters were so terrified that they left for Berbice yesterday. Ms. Benjamin explained, “Yesterday I hear the sound of glass breaking minutes past one in the morning and I heard the two girls in the next room hollering.
“When I jammed my husband to wake him up I decide to come out of the room and then I saw fire and I ran back to the room and my husband come out and we hear another sound. Then we saw Mr. Dash throwing the bottle that was filled with kero into our home.”
She continued: “When he saw us looking he said I ain’t done! And he pelted another channa bomb. We managed to throw water and used some sand from the yard to contain the fire. Imagine this man was supposed to turn up in court for assaulting me, and the same day he tried to burn down my house with my family inside. He had even threatened previously to murder me.”
Police have taken a statement from Ms. Benjamin and charges are pending for Cedrick Dash.
