Police are looking for suspects in the brutal murder of a 52-year-old shopkeeper, whose body, with stab wounds to the head, was discovered early yesterday in his Mabura, Region Ten premises.
Colin Mclean, of Lot 88 Wismar Housing Scheme, Linden, is believed to have been murdered at around 04.00 hrs, when the lights in the community went off.
Mclean has been operating his food and beverage business at that location for the past 10 years.
Police in a release said that Mclean’s body was found in his home with suspected stab wounds at around 08:20 hrs yesterday. A source said that money and gold were missing.
This newspaper was informed that a little after 04:00hrs yesterday, when the lights in Mabura went off, neighbours recalled hearing a loud scream and upon checking some hours later, the bloodied body of the businessman was found.
Residents spoke of seeing a suspicious “red-skin” man walking around in the community late Saturday. A taxi driver reportedly told investigators that he picked up the said “red-skin” individual from Mclean’s shop around 05:00hrs yesterday.
“We hear that this man went talking over the phone that he did the job well in Mabura and the taxi man hear he and passed on the message to the police,” the dead man sister, Mavis McLean Thompson, said.
She added that a little before 09:00hrs yesterday, one of her brothers called and informed her that their sibling had been murdered.
“He (my brother) called and say Colin get murder and I asked him if it is we Colin and he say yes and he hang up and he left to go to Mabura,” the sister of the dead man added.
She further related that she was informed that customers visited her brother’s shop early yesterday and after making several unanswered calls, they went to the Mabura Police Station.
“They see the place open and they know that he does done start prepare things and after they called and get no answers, they went to the police and when the police went into the place, they saw my brother lying on the bed,” the distraught sister said.
She added that as the news about her brother’s death went around in the community, neighbours provided investigators with details pertaining to the suspect who they claimed left Mabura minutes after Mclean was killed.
McLean leaves to mourn his daughter and six siblings.
