Trophies, replicas, medals, T-Shirts all compliments of the United States based former Linden residents were handed over to the Linden Amateur basketball Association on Wednesday ahead of the final of this year’s Linden Secondary Schools Under-19 basketball championship set for Monday between Linden Foundation Secondary and Mackenzie High School.
Yvonne Alphonso on behalf of the United States-based donors handed over the Championship T-Shirts and ALL Star Jerseys to LABA Organising secretary Ashton Angel at the Linden Mall on Wednesday.
Also in attendance were Secretary of Victory Valley Royals Ms Candace Bellamy and June Harris.
The trophies and prizes from United States-based sponsors arrived in the country earlier this week for the 10th annual Linden Secondary Schools Under-19 basketball championship which has reached the deciding final stage.
On Wednesday the organisers of the championship, the Linden Amateur Basketball Association, were presented with the trophies and replicas and medals at a simple ceremony at the Linden Mall in Mackenzie.
The final of the Under-19 Linden Schools basketball championship is set for Monday at the tournament venue, the Mackenzie Sports Club.
The schools which contested that tournament were Linden Technical Institute, Wisburg Secondary, Linden Foundation secondary, Mackenzie High, New Silvercity Secondary and the defending champions Christianburg/Wismar Secondary.
The U.S based sponsors have been with the tournament over the past nine years and continue to give their donations for the championship this time around. The overseas sponsors are Marlon Josiah, who sponsored the winning Trophy and replicas, Orin Louison the runner-up trophy and replicas, Kenneth Chapman the third place trophy and replicas, Lennox Allicock the fourth place trophy and medals, while Alphonso is the donor for the Most Valuable Player of the final and Maxi Stephens the sponsor for the many individual awards at stake including the Best Rebounder and Most Points in the final.
The Championship T-Shirts are donated by Sylvester Mann and the All Star T-Shirts by Louis Webster, while the basketballs to be used for the championship were donated by Leon Moe.
