All Roads lead to the DCC Ground in Queenstown today where exhilarating cricket in the Finals of Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association’s Trophy Stall sponsored Male and Female softball tournament is anticipated.
The Day/Night affair will climax under the recently installed six floodlight towers and is scheduled to commence at14:00hrs. The action today will see Wolf Warriors facing Regal, Floodlights vs. Success Masters and in mouthwatering female action, Mikes Well-Woman opposing Trophy Stall Angels.
The atmosphere at Softball encounters is usually full noise and excitement and this evening should be no different with some of the Country’s top softball players expected to showcase their talent in what should be three riveting matches involving six of Guyana’s leading teams.
Live commentary at the venue, pulsating music, lots of beverages and food on sale will all be available for what should be a capacity turn out of Softball cricket fans. The, what should be high quality lights, is an initiative of Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association and Minister Frank Anthony and admission is only $200, while a fee of $500 entitles drivers of vehicles to park inside the ground for added security.
In the first Final, Floodlights, spearheaded by the likes of the experienced Wayne Jones, Richard Persaud, Ricky Deonarain, John Sumair, Ramesh Narine and Lalta Gainda take on Success Masters, who have in their line-up Skipper Hakim Majeed and Khemraj Maheed, in a T/20 affair in the Masters over-40 division.
At 18:00hrs, the country’s foremost female teams -Mikes Wellwoman and Trophy Stall Angels- clash in a battle of the Divas in a T/10 affair. Mike’s Wellwoman are a powerful unit and includes Skipper Abiena Parker, Latoya Smith, Haseena Mohamed and Zola Telford.
West Indies ‘hardball’ players June Ogle and Tremayne Smartt will lead the Trophy Stall Angels charge and will expect support from Hema Singh and Monica Seals.
At 19:15hrs, the country’s most powerful softball teams in the city, Regal (Guyana Softball Cup 1 Runners up) and West Coast Demerara side, Wolf Warriors, the losing finalist in the Guyana Softball Cup 111, face-off for top honors in the competition.
Wool Warriors will pin their hopes on Amrit Rai, Azaz Azeez and Amir Nizamadin, while Regal will have in their side Richard Latif and Shaid Gittens
The Chinese group travelling worldwide in their Recreation Vehicle (RV) is expected to make an appearance during the games at the DCC ground.
