Bartica joined West and Upper Demerara as winners of their first game when play in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Under-17 Inter Association League continued yesterday at the Grove Playfield.
Heads Up! Bartica (red and black uniforms) defending stoutly against East Bank in their Under-17 clash yesterday at the Grove Playfield.
Despite enjoying home advantage, East Bank failed to put together proper passes which were done by the Bartica boys who secured full points 11 minutes into the match-up.
A powerful shot from just outside the area off the boot of Keno Washington was all that Bartica needed to seal victory.
They looked a more organised unit and despite giving up size advantage to the home team, kept their focus to the end. East Bank created numerous opportunities but on many occasions were denied scoring owing to some excellent work between the uprights by Bartica’s goalkeeper, Akeem Hendricks.
East Bank goalie, Lloyd Matthews also had a good game, were it not for his awareness and control in the area, the score line could have been different.
Competition will continue next weekend with matches at various venues around the country.
Bartica, West Demerara and Upper Demerara are all on three points; Georgetown and East Demerara are on one point each with East Bank and Essequibo yet to register a point.
