By Zaheer Mohamed
Joshua Persaud stroked a fine century as Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) defeated Demerara Cricket Club B by 177 runs when the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/Brain Street U-15 tournament continued yesterday.
Persaud hammered fourteen fours and eleven sixes and shared in a second wicket stand of 217 with Stephan Campbell as host GNIC posted 281-1 declared in 21.2 overs after they were inserted by the visitors.
Persaud and fellow opener Kurt Lovell added 64 for the first wicket before Lovell played back and was LBW to Kennard Moonsammy for 20. Persaud and Campbell then capitalized on some wayward bowling and sloppy fielding, but after seemingly well set for a century Campbell was run out for 85 (9×4) which prompted the declaration. His fifty came off 32 balls while Persaud, who brought up his century off 48 balls, was left not out on 142. DCC B were bowled out for 104 in 42.3 overs in reply.
Eleven year old opener Brandon Jaikarran and David Marshall put together 41 for the fourth wicket after DCC B were reduced to 44-3. But after they were separated, the rest of the batting showed little fight as Persaud crowned a fine all round game by grabbing 5-21. Marshall made 20 while Jaikarran, despite being left not out on eight showed much promise facing 128 balls.
Orlando Ghisiawan took 2-22.

Toney Hargobin snared 3-11 and Pradesh Balkishun 2-15.
Navindra Persaud and Chandra Mohan set their team on course with an opening partnership of 76 before Mohan went for 19. Persaud who effected a brilliant run out while fielding and played some lovely shots on both sides of the pitch top scored with 62. Mavindra Dindyal 17, El Nathan Sukhnanand 16 and Brandon Matthews 13 not out were the other main scorers as GYO were bowled out for 196 in 53 overs. Alex Chunilall claimed 3-38.
