It poured incessantly on Sunday evening as the much anticipated Easter Weekend concert at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, East Bank Demerara,
got underway. But with a magnificent cast, it was almost impossible for patrons not to have had a blast.
Kris ‘KI’ Persad and the JMC 3Veni Band, along with headlining – Sean Paul and Jah Cure, delivered in a spectacular way. Although the show was scheduled to start at 20:00hrs, the first act did not get underway until about midnight, with the talented members of the Mingles Band, making way for the Trinidadian counterpart- KI and the JMC 3Veni comprising also, Nishard ‘M’ Mayrhoo and Neval Chatelall.
It is no doubt that they delivered a massive performance, with all sections of the crowd gyrating to the latest R&B, Chutney, Soca, Dancehall and even Bollywood hits. It was an explosive act, and the tone setter for the acts which would follow. Next to follow was the much anticipated performance of the night from dancehall superstar, Sean Paul.
Hearts began to throb as the women in the crowd anxiously awaited the sight of the Don of Dancehall.
It probably seemed like forever for some, but the fine-looking singer finally emerged from behind the keyboards, in front of thousands of screaming fans.
Accessorized with his eye-catching Mohawk hairstyle, the singer was dressed in a dashing all black outfit, which was just enough to make his female fans drop to their knees. But Sean Paul’s good looks became secondary after he finally opened his mouth to sing. Belting out one hit after the other, the local audience was in for a treat.
It probably was a rollercoaster of songs, as the singer moved ably from the slow jams like- ‘How deep is your love’ and ‘I’m still in love with you’ to gyration mode with ‘break it off’ and ‘temperature.’ If you haven’t picked it up from his song videos, let me say, the Jamaican star can dance.
After more than an hour of gyration, it was time for Sean Paul to leave the stage. But surely not before thanking his Guyanese fans and urging them to continue to support his music.
Up next to perform was reggae star- Jah Cure. But this was after another long break. The Jamaican artiste appeared on stage shortly after 03:00hrs on Monday morning. He was the perfect act to transform the Guyanese posse from jumping and waving to hugging and waltzing.
The ‘unconditional love’ singer was able to fit in a few minutes for the lovers in the crowd who were seen embracing each other and sharing decent kisses as he (The Cure) did a few romantic numbers.
The curtain came down on the show at around 04:00hrs, thanks to the pouring rain. Apart from Mother Nature’s interference and a few unnecessary delays by organizers, the Easter Sunday concert was superb!
