Shariff, Jagdeo stables take top honours
By Samuel Whyte
Elle’s Vision, the two times Guyana Cup back to back Champion of the Jagdeo stable, trained by Tribuwhan ‘Turbo’ Jagdeo and piloted by Jockey Paul Delph, continues to show how unpredictable and mysterious it is. The animal defied the odds to take the Feature C and Lower event to win a close race from a fast finishing CP Got Even and Treacle by a whisker, when the Port Mourant Turf Club in collaboration with the Jumbo Jet Enterprise held their annual Guyana Cup Horse Race meet on Sunday at the clubs’ entity at

Port Mourant.
Imported from the USA a few years ago and running with a top weight of 123lbs with a classification of C2 returned after a disastrous showing in its last outing to take home the $2M bounty and trophy up for grabs compliments of Jumbo Jet. Elle’s Vision during its sojourn in Guyana so far has either won or ran out of the races it took part in, earning the title of mystery horse.
The 11 animals were off on a level break with Elle’s Vision, California Strike, Africanist and Got to Go doing the early running. Half way in the race, Milwaukee Blitz came up to challenge and carried the pace along with front runners. Elle’s Vision then took over again and with Delph urging it on was heading to the finishing pole. At that moment, two animals that were not in the picture in C.P Got Even and Treacle, running from way down the pack came blazing down the homestretch with tremendous speed. Another step and the results would have been different with CP Got Even, Treacle and California Strike rounding out the money.
The day’s activity lived up to most of its pre-race hype with some close finishes and some outstanding performances.
Unsettled of the Inshan Bacchus Stable with Randolph Richmond on the perch was all alone as it took the three year old Guyana and West Indies bred event from Today is my Day, Shooting Star and Quiet Dancer. The win was worth $1M and trophy over 1200M.
It was a good day for the Jagdeo stable as the $700,000 first prize and trophy up for grabs in the four year old West Indies and Guyana One mile event which was won by Good Will Boy with Nicholas Patrick in the stirrups ahead of Princess Aksiha and It’s my Turn.
Swing Easy ridden by Randolph Richmond of the Shariff stable started the day right as it blazed down the homestretch to take the E class 1300M event ahead of Appealing Harvest and Captain Crook to run away with the $600,000 winners’ money and trophy.
The G3 event over 1300M for the $500,000 winnings and trophy was taken by Rosetta of the Jumbo Jet stable with Colin Ross on the mount. Another Jet, Settling Jet and Bridal Stone Corner occupied the other spots.
The Shariff stable was in winner’s row in the H class 1200M event as Silent Night with Brian Blake in the saddles won from Cat Messiah and She So Special to take the $350,000 winners money and trophy.
Mary Ann of the Goberdhan stable with Paul Delph won the I2 event from I want Revenge, De Gump and Smarty Light to take the $300,000 and trophy over 1000M.
Affinity with Yap Drepaul riding won the J2 and lower 1000M event and the $200,000 money from Windy Killer and Prince Bayaya.
Both the Jagdeo and Shariff stable scored two wins each to take the champion stable accolade. Jockeys Randolph Richmond and Paul Delph scored two wins each with Richmond also scoring a third to be adjudged champion rider. The top trainer on the day was Tribuwhan ‘Turbo’ Jagdeo. They received accolades compliments of Trophy Stall Bourda market.
Coordinator Nazrudeen ‘Jumbo Jet’ Mohamed Junior was pleased with how things materialised and promised bigger things next year. Around 80 horses participated in the day’s event which had close to $10M up for grabs.
