Cabinet recently gave its no-objection to the award of a contract for the design of the West Bank Demerara and Canal Polder Roads, says Dr. Roger Luncheon, Cabinet Secretary.
Addressing media operatives at his weekly post-Cabinet press briefing on Wednesday, at the Office of the President, he enlightened that the contract is valued at US$586,000.
According to Dr. Luncheon, the designs cater for both Canal No.1 and Canal No.2 Polder Roads, leading from the West Bank Demerara Public Road to the Conservancy.
He noted that the Roads have deteriorated and the designs are to upgrade them to modern standards. He related that Cabinet also gave its no-objection to the award of a contract to the tune of US$593,000 for the design and consultancy services for the East Bank Demerara Public Road, from Grove to Timehri.
Currently, contractors are widening the East Bank Demerara Public Road from Providence to Diamond into four-lanes. And, road widening works were being executed between the Timehri Police Station and the Cheddi Jagan International Airport’s Terminal Building.
Cabinet also gave its no-objection to the award of a contract valuing US$397,000 for the design of the East Bank Berbice Road southwards of Stanleytown.
