A wanted man was nabbed red handed during another break and enter escapade.
Ronald Hurdle, 26, of no fixed place of abode was wanted for a number of misdemeanors in various part of Berbice. On April 9, last, his luck ran out when he was nabbed by police as he was in the act of stealing from a dwelling house.
According to information the man who was on the run for some time had broken into the dwelling house of Jaipaul Motilall, called “Rafeek”, of Lot 117 No. 2 Village, East Canje, Berbice and stole a bicycle, a DVD Player and a pair of slippers all to the value of $28,000.
He appeared on Friday in the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court on the charge of Break and Enter and Larceny and was remanded to jail.
Prosecutor Sergeant Godfrey Playter told the court that Motilall, a farmer, had secured his two-storey house around 08:00 hrs that day and left for work. Around 10:00 hrs he received a called that someone had broken into his house. He immediately called the police and left for home.
Upon arrival at home he noticed a crowd and the police with a strange man in their custody. He subsequently learnt that the man’s name was Hurdle and that he was the person who had broken into his house.
The prosecutor stated that the police, upon receiving the information, responded promptly and surprised Hurdle who was still in the house. He was captured in the act with the items mentioned in his possession.
He was arrested and charged. The prosecutor informed the court that the man is a known character who has been charged before for offences of a similar nature.
He was also wanted by the police in other parts of the county for other offences of similar nature.
The Magistrate refused bail and remanded the culprit to jail until May 12.
