Dear Editor,
Is that the Leader/Past Presidential Candidate of The United Force at the front of a PPP picket line? Mr. Peter Piawari has definitely come home to roost. Could not stay in hiding for too long!
Many of the Amerindians who were brought out to cry about the Amerindian Fund say they have to be paid promptly because they took ‘rain and shine’. Shame on this Government for using those people to do their dirty deeds! Then come elections time, they will use that same money, parcel it off in amounts of 5,000 and pay them to go and vote for the PPP. Is that the sole purpose of the Amerindians in this country?
What is so much better about the conditions under which the Amerindians live now? Were they even considered for jobs at the Marriott? They have skills too but the Chinese were allowed to bring in their labour force. And this Government wants to tell the Amerindians that they have their interests at heart? Why not teach us to fish so we do not have to look out for your hand outs every five years or whenever you need us to protest for gains for a handful of your people.
Our young women are taken to do domestic jobs with paltry pay packets.
Our young women are taken into the mining fields and used as sex workers. Our young men are taken into the mining fields and worked like donkeys and paid like junkies.
Our school aged children have to fetch water for their schools;
We are denied mining rights to our very lands – these are sold out to friends of the Government.
All of these and more atrocities are meted out to us yet none of the PPP well dressed parliamentarians come out in support of our just causes. A few of our people have been bought and have sold us for ‘thirty pieces of silver’
We are now reduced to mere puppets for the PPP who subtly keep us in abject poverty so that when they pull the strings, we will chant in their favour. For this, we are reduced to accepting a box of food with a box juice.
Pellum Prince
