Dear Editor,
The GFF will be hosting its Annual Congress on 26th April 2014 at the Tower Hotel. This Congress is expected to be as fiery as the last one held at the Pegasus in April of 2013 when there was elections for office bearers. New persons were elected into office and since then the amount of excitement and haphazardness that transpired made the previous 20 years look pale in comparison.
Let me see if I can remember some of the main stuff that transpired.
The Deputy General Secretary was fired, the Office Manager was asked to resign, a Vice President resigned, another Vice President was suspended, another Vice President has called for the President to demit office, the President sent a VP a lawyer’s letter after he chastised the President for not Managing the GFF Business properly amongst other things, the President lied to the nation when he said that he went to Zurich but instead went and visited his family in the USA.
The Gen Secretary has submitted his resignation, the Accountant has also resigned, the GFF was fined a substantial amount of USD for withdrawing from the Beach Soccer Tournament after the President assured all that CONCACAF said that the GFF would not be fined, The GFF continue to incur unnecessary indebtedness with the playing of so called Premier League, small crowd support, small gate income, large transportation expenses, ground rental, referee fees, no security and medical personnel at games and the travesty of comical things continue to prevail.
No International matches played for over a year and counting. The UDFA Executives were suspended by the Matthias led regime for some exorbitant period, yet before the playing of that ill fated final on 1st’ Jan 2014, Mr Matthias had lots of meetings with individuals so that the Linden Finals could have been played, and yet this man spearheaded this long suspension to show that he is in charge.
Mr Editor after seeing such inefficiency and mismanagement, those who had the wisdom to move a motion of no confidence on the sitting President deserve commendation of the highest order. At last football will be spared another year of stress and agony.
Mr Beckles of Bartica is suing the GFF for monies owed to him, he had earlier requested payment and he received confirmation that he will be paid at a certain date, after many months of no response, Mr Beckles sent a Lawyers letter threatening court action, Mr Editor the GFF has decided to contest the matter and has engaged the service of a Lawyer, now tell me isn’t that intelligent stupidity the monies owed will be less than the legal fees, that is the type of leadership that is prevailing.
Mr Aubrey Major is also owed and the GFF is procrastinating in the payment, but instead the President takes out his staff to lavish dinners and lunches instead of trying to alleviate the outstanding debts.
Speaking about Staff, the President preaches transparency, accountability & structure. Mr Editor, one of the Presidents trusted and close staff used to collect monies on behalf of the GFF and when the accountant approached this seemingly powerful individual for the funds, none was there. The monies amounted to was approximately 200,000 dollars. Mr Editor that is misappropriation of funds and requires dismissal and or jail. A football official who is involved in politics had to loan that individual monies to repay the misappropriated funds. This matter has been swept under the carpet and the President preaches accountability. Am I hearing that the same individual was also involved in collecting monies for the GFA Finals at the stadium for booths and the money can’t be accounted for and I hear it is lots of dollars? So much for transparency and accountability.
Mr Editor, the GFF constitution is clear on certain matters yet the President operates like he is a law on to himself. Let me give you an example. In making certain constitutional decision it requires 4 Executive to decide, only 3 executives are functioning and as far as we are aware it is only 2. The President in an attempt to fill two VP’s Position appointed two persons to function and has even invited them to meetings of the Executive, is not that crass eye pass to the highest order and this is the guy that we want to lead Guyana football into the future. Come on General Council wake up from your hunches and save Guyana Football.
News is also emanating that the FIFA, CONCACAF-& CFU officials are not too pleased with his performance.
In the interest of good governance, fair play and sanity, I am hoping that the General Council in their wisdom shall move this individual.
Mr Editor, can you or anyone say that the President did a good job over the last year with all that transpired. He caused too much destruction.
Thank you,
Concerned Football Fan
