Dear Editor,
It has come to my attention that there is a concerted plot by a group of known individuals to remove Roger Harper from Guyana’s Cricket Administration, at a time when cricket is in utter ruins and our cricketers badly need his experience and expertise.
The group, of course, does not care for our cricket or cricketers but is more concerned with the lust for power and personal gain even if it means running cricket into the ground.
The group consists of:
(a) Some Executives from The Guyana Cricket Board and Demerara Cricket Board
(b) The GYO, Everest, GCC, DCC cricket clubs along with a former GCB Secretary, an Insurance Broker, the Sports Director and an Assistant Commissioner of police along with an attorney at law and a senior executive of Sterling Products Ltd.
The group meets at the GCC and Everest Cricket Club where it plans for a general takeover of our cricket with the Sports Director and the Assistant Commissioner of Police promising to use all the resources available to them.
This is all happening when our national cricket teams are being beaten by all and sundry. Promising young cricketers, who were performing well four years ago, have been destroyed mentally and physically by a group of illegal and inept cricket administrators who never played the game of cricket and cannot boast of even a decent cricket administrative track record.
Players such as Ramnaresh Sarwan, Devendra Bishoo, Narsingh Deonarine, Christopher Barnwell, Jonathon Foo, Paul Wintz, Richard Ramdeen, Brandon Bess, Ronsford Beaton, Derwin Christian, Rajendra Chandrika, Vishal Singh and Zaheer Mohamed among others, have all suffered negatively, despite their obvious talents, from the calculating and grossly incompetent leadership of the current cricket administrators. The selection and the mental and physical preparation of the players have been exceptionally poor. Neil Kumar, Anand Sanasie, Rayon Griffith and sports writer Sean Devers have all2
showered praises for the GCB’s preparation and selection of the team which they touted to be the best-prepared team for years.
Let them tell the public why the best team has performed so badly especially when the regional opposition has been so poor?
When one analyses the fact that the government in its de-recognition of the GCB proposed the Cricket Administration Bill ostensibly to resolve this untenable cricket madness, yet its erstwhile Sports Director/Member Parliament who sat on the Select Committee publicly embraces the rejected GCB, showering compliments and unflinching support all the while.
It causes one to wonder if the Cricket Administration Bill will ever be approved in Parliament and even so if it will ever be instituted.
