Statistician Charwayne Walker continues his look at regional cricket performances. He focuses attention on the players that were able to record double tons and capture five plus wickets in the same match in an innings.
Since sponsored Regional first class cricket started in 1966 the only players that scored a double century and took more than five wickets in an innings in the same match are Sir Garfield Sobers, Geoffrey Greenidge and Roger Harper. Sir Garry took 6 for 56 from 23.1 overs and scored 204 vs British Guiana 1966 at the Kensington Oval.
Barbados won that Shell Shield battle by an Innings and 15 runs. Scores: British Guiana first Innings 227 all out; Basil Butcher 99, Rohan Kanhai 69, Joseph Solomon 28. Bowling for Barbados skipper Garfield Sobers took 6 for 56 from 23.1 overs, Charlie Griffith 3 for 28. Barbados first Innings 559 for 9 declared, Garfield Sobers 204, Rawle Brancker 132, Peter Lashley 54 and Seymour Nurse 52. Bowling for British Guiana, Joseph Solomon took 4 for 46 from 13 overs, Rex Collymore 2 for 154 from 51 overs.
British Guiana second innings 307 all out, Clive Lloyd 107, Joseph Solomon 70, Rohan Khanhai 43. Bowling for Barbados Charlie Griffith snared 4 for 49 from 15.2 overs, David Holford 2 for 53 and Tony Howard 2 for 56.
The following year, 1967, Sobers’ compatriot Geoffrey Greenidge scored 205 and took 7 for 124 vs Jamaica at the Kensington oval. Result: Barbados won that Shell Shield encounter by 96 runs. Scores: Barbados first innings 521 for 8 declared; Geoffrey Greenidge 205, Rawle Brancker 135, skipper Gary Sobers 47. Bowling for Jamaica, A.B. Wellington took 3 for 108 from 19.3 overs, E.H.C Griffith 2 for 60 from 22 overs, R.A. Cohen 2 for 77.

Bowling for Barbados, Tony Howard took 5 for 46 from 21 overs. Rawle Brancker 3 for 26 from 8 overs.
Twenty eight years later Guyanese Roger Harper took 5 for 98 and scored 202 vs the Windward Islands at Bourda in 1995. Result: match drawn. Scores: Windward Islands first innings 414 all out, skipper Dawnley Joseph 131, Uzzah Pope 91, Rawl Lewis 53 not out, Alton Crafton 31.
Bowling for Guyana; Roger Harper took 5 for 98 from 53.2 overs, Mahendra Nagamootoo 4 for 130 from 47 overs. Guyana’s first innings 479 all out, Roger Harper 202, Sudesh Dhaniram 79, Keith Semple 67, Nolan McKenzie 25, Kenneth Wong, 25.
Bowling for Windward Islands Roy Marshall took 4 for 75 from 42 overs, Rawl Lewis 2 for 75 from 37.1 overs, Dennison Thomas 2 for 78 from 26 overs.
