Dorado Speed Swim Club won the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) inter club championship which ended on Sunday last at the National Aquatic Centre, Lilliendaal, East Coast Demerara. Dorado SSC gained 620 points while Dolphin finished second on 299, Silver Shark placed third on 155 and Orca finished third on 78.
Dorado SSC captured 73 medals including 37 gold, 24 silver and 12 bronze. Dolphin finished with 31 medals which consisted of 10 gold, 12 silver and 9 bronze. Silver Shark gained 20 medals (8 gold, 7silver, 5 bronze) and Orca got 7 medals (5 gold, 1 silver, I bronze).
Aleka Persaud of Orca Swim Speed Club won the Girls 8 and under 50 LC meter Backstroke in 51.63 seconds, Antonia Dey of Silver Shark placed second in 59.63 followed by Alisha Rambaran in 1:02.70.
Donna Carter of Dorado grabbed the first podium spot in the girls 9-10 50 m LC backstroke in 49.82 seconds, Danielle George of Silver Shark placed second in 50.02 and Lian Winter of Dorado took third slot in 55.03. The girls 11-12 50m LC backstroke was taken by Kentia Mahaica of Dolphin in 44.97.
Noel Raekwon of Dorado took the boys 8 and under 50m LC backstroke in 42.67, Paul Mahaica and Lajaun Munroe of Dolphin finished second and third in 51.90 and 53.13 respectively. Sekhel Tzedaq of Dolphin grabbed the boys 9-10 50m LC backstroke in 39.59, followed by Leon Seaton of Silver Shark in 41.70 and Joshua Isadore of Dorado Speed in 1:11.56. Hussain Antonio and Alex Winter of Dorado took first and second place in the boys 11-12 50 m LC backstroke in 42.59 and 51.76 respectively.
Soroya Simmons of Dorado won the girls 15 and over 50 LC backstroke in a time of 34.97 seconds. Her club mate Brittany van Lange placed second in 35.53 while Onika George of Silver Shark ended third in 34.48. Daniel Scott of Dorado took the boys 13-14 50 m backstroke in 40.72. Joseph Seguina of Dolphin carted off the boys 15 and over 50 LC m backstroke in 34.31. Omar Adams of Dorado placed second in 35.63 followed by Andrew Fowler of Dolphin. Aleka Persaud was again in winners’ lane in the girls 8 and under 100m freestyle in 1:36.92. Donna Carter of Dorado won the girls 9-10 1000 m freestyle in 1:40.24.
The girls 11-12 100 m freestyle was taken by Kenita Mahaica in 1:32.66. Noel Raekwon overpowered his rivals to cop the boys 8 and under 100m freestyle in 1:24.34. The boys 9-10 100m freestyle was won by Leon Seaton in 1:18.36 while Antonio Hussein of Dorado grabbed the Boys 11-12 100m freestyle event in 1:17.56. van Lange took gold in the girls 15 and over 100m freestyle in 1:04.22, Simmons (1:06.09) took second spot and Jamila Sanmoogan of Dolphin (1:08.78) third. Joseph De Nobrega of Dorado claimed the boys 13-14 100m freestyle in 1:02.35, his team mates Dominic Skeete (1:15.75) and Daniele Scott (1:17.24) placed second and third in that order.
The boys 15 and over 100 m freestyle was won by Hannibal Gaskin of Dorado Speed in 59.79, Omar Adams took second spot in 1:01.36 and Joseph Seguina third in 1:02.60. Raekwon captured the boys 8 and under 50 m butterfly in 43.26, Seaton took the boys 9-10 50m butterfly in 40.26 and van Lange grabbed the girls 15 and over 50m freestyle in 32.87. The boys 13-14 50m butterfly was taken by Joseph De Nobrega in 31.45 while Hannibal Gaskin won the boys 15 and over 50m butterfly.
Soroya Simmons bagged the girls 15 and over 200 m backstroke, Gaskin undone his rivals to take the boys 15 and over 100m butterfly in 1:05.18 and club mate Lain Winter pocketed gold in the girls 9-10 50 m breaststroke in 53.38. Joshua Isadore of Dorado grabbed first place in the boys 9-10 50 m freestyle while Nathon Hackett of Silver Shark won the boys 11-12 50 m freestyle in 30. 38. van Lange continued her good showing with victory in the girls 15 and over 50 m freestyle in 28.65 followed by Onika George in 29.90 and Jamila Sanmoogan in 30.05. Dylan Nurse of Dorado took the honours in the boys 13-14 50 m freestyle in 28.50, Joseph De Nobrega (28.91) and Daniel Scott (32.66) third. Adams won the boys 15 and over 50 m freestyle in 26.65.
