A post mortem examination done yesterday on little Phillip Anthony Pratt, revealed that the infant died of Hemorrhagic Bronchopneumonia.
The four month-old was discovered dead at around 09:55hrs on Tuesday at the Mothers’ Union Day Care Centre located on Robb Street, Georgetown.
According to the American Medical Dictionary, bronchopneumonia is inflammation of the lungs. It is characterized by chills, fever, high pulse and respiratory rates and severe chest pain, among others. Bronchopneumonia can lead to respiratory failure, congestive heart failure and jaundice.
Meanwhile, the baby’s mother, Philion Archer, an employee of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation maintains that she was shocked at her son’s death, since the child appeared to have been healthy and showed no sign of illness.
“He was normal up to that morning,” the distraught Section ‘A’ Sophia resident said.
Kaieteur News understands that the caretaker was about to move the infant from where he was lying, when she realized that he was not breathing and there was froth and blood around his nose.
Meanwhile, in a press statement yesterday, the family of the now dead child said that the Day Care staff is not to be blamed for Pratt’s death.
“We categorically state that, the Mothers’ Union Day Care facility is NOT at fault, nor, is in no manner responsible for baby Phillip’s death,” the statement read.
“We also state that, the Mothers’ Union Day Care facility pursued its normal procedures by contacting the infant child’s mother. We are in no way dissatisfied with the procedures followed by the Day Care, and we take this opportunity to once again thank the administration and the caregivers for rendering quality service and their assistance following baby Phillips’ demise.”
The family noted that they felt the need to make such a clarification, since some sections of the media reported the child’s death in a manner, which implied blame on the Mothers’ Union Day Care facility.
The press statement said that the post mortem examination which was conducted yesterday morning in the presence of family members, concludes that little Phillip died of natural causes.
“…as it found that his death was due to a complication from bronchitis,” the release from the family read.
It added, “The family also thanks all who have sympathised and are commiserating with us in this time of our bereavement.”
