Around 07:00hrs yesterday some 30 members of the ‘Church On The Rock’ Assemblies of God church, at Port Kaituma, assembled at the water front and conducted a massive cleanup.
They concentrated on the boat docking area.
Leading the campaign was church Overseer and elder, Sister Coleen Riddle.
This initiative saw an almost unbelievable 700 jumbo plastic bags of garbage being filled and taken away from the area. This clean-up was voluntarily done by the church members.
They all concluded that the sight and smell were unbearable.
The exercise ended about 13:00 hrs. The church members are hoping that some measures will be put in place to help eradicate the unhealthy practice of garbage disposal into the river at Port Kaituma.
