A fine half century from opener Shiek Mohamed guided host Everest Cricket Club Masters to a convincing seven-wicket victory over the touring Florida Cricket Academy Masters in a 30-over match played on Friday last.
Florida Academy batted first and scored 140-9 off their allocation of 30 overs. Neville Dawkins scored 46 and Alston Nancoo 27. David Harper claimed 2-4 from two overs, while Shaheed Mohamed snared 2-8 off three overs.
Everest responded with 141-3 in 20 overs. Mohamed slammed seven fours in a top score of 50 not out while Hemraj Garbarran supported with 36 (4×4) and Basil Persaud 22 (4×4,1×6). Mohamed received the best batsman and man of the match prizes, while Harper and Shaheed Mohamed were rewarded for the bowling performances. Mohamed, who celebrated his 50th birthday recently, was also given a plaque from members of the club.
Speaking at a simple ceremony, President of the Florida Cricket Academy Wayne Ramnarine congratulated the Everest Masters and expressed gratitude to the club for hosting them.
Captain of the local team Rajesh Singh thanked the tourists for their visit. The game was organised as part of the club’s 100th year anniversary celebrations.
