Up and coming cyclist, Andre ‘Padlock’ Green, was in devastating form as for the third consecutive time he won a Flying Ace Cycle Club organised road race yesterday.
The race which began at Marks Bridge at 60 Stanleytown, saw the cyclists proceeding to No. 43Village before turning back to finish in front of the First Impression Hotel at Hampshire, Corentyne.
Green of the Trojan Cycle Club (TCC) almost completely dominated the 50 miles event sponsored by the First Impression Hotel and a few other sponsors.
Starting down the pack Green soon caught up with the front riders that included Yashier Israel, Syborne Fernandes, Jubon Crawford, Adriel Ross, Romello Crawford and Kurt La Rose. Green as soon as he caught the front bunch made an immediate break for the front. He was soon followed by teammate Jubon Crawford as the two took the lead about 10 miles into the race.
It was a straight battle between the two young cyclists after then as they never relinquished the lead.
The gap between the pair and the rest of the field got wider as the race progressed with them accounting for the sprint prizes. However, with Green in top form at the moment, Crawford could not keep up with the pressure and soon started to fade. Crawford tried desperately to regain lost ground over the last segment of the race but Green was too good as he rode home all alone.
Crawford finished second some distance behind.
The sprint home for third among the chasing pack saw Romello Crawford edging out La Rose, Andrew Hicks, Ross and Samuel Mootoo in that order. Fernandes was some way behind as he finished eight to round out the placing.
The prime point prizes were taken by Green with four, Jubon who took three with La Rose grabbing the first one.
The female cyclists, who rode from Adventure to First Impression Hotel at Hampshire, saw Marica Dick of the FACC, who is making a return after a break, riding home comfortably ahead of Christine Matherson. Deance Welch took the girls under-16 category again ahead of rival Shemika Texiera.
The presentation ceremony was held immediately after the race at First Impression Hotel. Speaking at the ceremony, organizer and coach of the FACC Randolph Roberts told the gathering that the series of cycling events are to keep the cyclists prepared and ready for bigger competition, including the upcoming three-stage road race. He however expressed his disappointment in their timings.
Co-sponsor Janette Ikel of the Furniture World also spoke at the ceremony and encouraged the cyclists to continue training in an effort to improve their timings. She promised to continue sponsoring events.
