Cyclists compete in Berbice again this weekend

Cycling coach Randolph Roberts of the Flying Ace Cycle Club of New Amsterdam has organized yet another cycling event for riders in Berbice. This is the third cycling event in four weeks and the 6th so far for the year that has been organized by the FACC and Roberts.
Roberts feels that to keep in top form, cyclists should be involved in competitive riding as often as possible. He stated that, “The time has come for more action and less talk. The more competitive riding the cyclists are involved in the better it will be for them,” Roberts asserted.
The man, who has been credited with almost single handedly keeping cycling going in the Ancient County, stated that cyclists needed to be active as often as possible. His desire this year is to keep the cyclists as busy as possible and to bring new riders to the fore.
The event, which is a 50 mile affair and is sponsored by a number of persons in the Ancient County, is for Berbician cyclists only. It is expected to pedal off from Marks Bridge at Tacama Turn 60, Stanleytown, pass through the town of New Amsterdam and race to NO.43 Bridge before turning back to finish in front of the First Impression Hotel at Hampshire Corentyne.
Prizes will be awarded to the first eight finishers, the first two females ,the first two beginners and the first two female U16 riders.
There will also be eight prime point prizes up for grabs. The females and beginners are expected to ride shorter distances.
Cyclists from both the FACC and Trojan Cycle clubs are expected to renew battle with the likes of Andrea ‘Padlock’ Green, Ray Millington, the Crawford cousins Romallo and Jevon, Elijah Brijadder, Andrew Hicks, Wasim Hassnu, Audrel Ross, Edmond Francis, Keith Griffith, Wilbert and Gary Benjamin, Turhan Harris and Syborne Fernandes among others.
Among the sponsors are Furniture World in New Amsterdam, the Crawford Family and First Impression Hotel at Hampshire Corentyne among others.
