Berbice Educational Institute (BEI) demolished Tutorial Academy Secondary School (TASS) 3-1 to remain the only unbeaten team when play in the Berbice leg of the Scotiabank/Pepsi Schools Football Academy continued on Tuesday at the Esplanade Park in New Amsterdam.
The purposeful BEI unit opened their account in the 17th minute when Kevin Williams scored with a free kick from outside the 18 yard box. It was 2-0 in the 24th minute when Shakiel Durant scored from close range. The score remained unchanged at half time.
TASS began the second half desperate to make up lost ground and with the hard working Joshua Butts upping his game. Butts, who was almost all over the place in an effort to take control was eventually rewarded when he scored to pull one back and make it 2-1.
However, as the game continued BEI was awarded a penalty which Jerold Forth made no mistake with to give BEI the 3-1 win.
The competition continues in Berbice today with defending champions Berbice High School (BHS) taking on Vryman’s Erven Secondary School VESS from 15:30hrs at the Esplanade Park.
The points standing in the six teams competition so far shows BEI leading with six points with TASS, New Amsterdam Multilateral School (NAMS), VESS and BHS locked on three points each. Canje Secondary School (CSS) is still to record a point. (Samuel Whyte)
