Two unmasked armed bandits on a motorcycle yesterday morning held up and robbed a Corentyne businessman of $10M in cash. At the time the businessman was about to make a deposit into the Republic Bank Rose Hall branch about 07:15 hrs.
The businessman Ramlinggum Permaul, called “Buddy”, 42, with his brother, Subramanie Permaul, 39, and their father Mangalie Permaul, own the Permaul’s Snackette and Confectionary store at lot 30 B Albion Road,
Corentyne.
The Snackette which is popular on the Corentyne is undergoing some extensive repairs at the moment.
Ramlinggum was in the process of depositing the money into the Bank when he was accosted by the two bandits on a motorcycle.
The man was in his minivan PPP 1632 and had just pulled up in front of the bank. He was about to exit the vehicle with a bag containing $3M when the motorcycle pulled up. The pillion rider dismounted and discharged a round in the air and grabbed the bag. He then grabbed another bag containing $7M, money that belonged to Subramanie. The man then remounted the motorcycle and fled.
Mangalie gave chase as the men turned into Chandisingh Road, discharging a round in the process. They then turned into the burial ground road then into Out Post Dam and headed into the back dam, discharging rounds all the time with Mangalie in hot pursuit.
However, due to the state of the street Mabgalie gave up the chase. He then reported the matter to the police who responded and went in search of the bandits but the men had long disappeared.
The motorcycle which was without number plates was found abandoned in the backlands.
Investigations are continuing and the police are looking for some known suspects who fit the description of the thieves.
