Singh, Savory slam half centuries as Georgetown overcome East Bank

Opener Sunil Singh and wicketkeeper batsman Kemol Savory stroked half centuries as Georgetown defeated East Bank by 62 runs in their first round game of the Demerara Cricket Baord (DCB)/Demerara Fire and General Insurance company Inter Association Under-19 50 over tournament yesterday.

Georgetown posted 267-8 off their allotted 50 overs after deciding to bat at the Demerara Cricket Club ground. Singh and fellow opener Tevin Imlach laid the foundation for a sizeable total with a stand of 78 before Imlach was bowled by Irshad Alli for 20 (2×4).
Hakeem David joined Singh and the pair continued to frustrate the opposition taking the score to 119 with level headed batting on a flat surface. The dismissal of David for 20 (2×4) saw a mini collapse for the host, losing the wickets of Singh for a well played 50 which contained five fours, Sherfene Rutherford (07) and Michael Shallim (10) to be at 146-5.
Savory dominated a sixth wicket partnership of 30 with Clevon Mc Ewan who was out for 12 and then added a further 46 with Steven Sankar 21 (1×4 2×6). The left handed Savory slammed one four and two sixes before he went in the penultimate over for 50.
Tariq Dharanlall was left unbeaten on 26 (3×4). Rickey Debidyal was the pick of the bowlers with 2-19 off three overs while Deonarine Seogobin, Stephan Brown, Ryan Shun and Irshad Alli had one each.
In reply, East Bank lost the early wicket of Ryan Shun (10) at 17 in the fifth over. Seogobin and Andrew Chung took the score to 45 but poor communication between the two resulted in Chung being run out for nine.
Ian Bell (09) followed shortly before Seogobin and Debidyal steadied the chase with a fourth wicket partnership of 50. Seogobin, after looking well set for a half century pulled a long hop from leg spinner Steven Sankar and was taken at mid wicket for 46 (7×4).
Consistent bowling by the Georgetown spinners restricted the scoring and East Bank lost Debidyal (19) and Viniesh Rampersaud (06) to be at 153-6. Despite the efforts of Brown and Daniel Barker down the order the visitors

finished on 205-8 when their 50 overs expired.
Brown was dismissed for 41 (1×6) and Barker was left not out on 33 (1×4 1×6). Sankar grabbed 2-38 from eight overs and Michael Shallim 2-44 off nine. Savory was named man-of-the-match. The competition continues tomorrow with Georgetown facing West Demerara at Wales and East Bank playing East Coast at Everest.
