The second edition of the Milo/Petra Organisation Schools Football Tournament has come and gone with another school being crowned champions, but more importantly it has taken another giant step both in terms of organisational acumen, stakeholders’ support and expansion of the fan base.
These three features stood out prominently throughout the competition and kudos must be given to Nestle Milo through its local agent Beepat Ltd for its prudence and evident love for the sport by its continuance to plug money into the competition.
Milo has unquestionably honoured its civic responsibility in giving back to the community and their act should be applauded by all, it has presented an alternative to many youths who might not have been performing well academically, while the opportunity to be gainfully engaged in recreational activities should not be trivialized, thanks to the generosity of Milo.
Though the tournament is still in its infancy, the organisational skill required to keep the tournament incident free is no small feat, especially when you’re dealing with adolescents from varying environments and nurturing.
The Petra Organisation managed the programme with a high level of competence that ensured that there was minimal if any incidents of significance and the Management and Staff must come in for praise as well.
In two short years they’ve justified the faith shown in them by the title sponsor and other stakeholders and their response has been to produce a quality product that was showcased at last Saturday’s final which enjoyed an increased turnout when compared with last year.
The event has been steadily growing and if we’re to go by the pronouncement of Co-Director Troy Mendonca,
whose wish is to see it evolve to the level where it becomes the premier junior tournament played within the Georgetown environ in two years.
The tournament itself must be viewed as a success both in terms of the quality of football that was exhibited, but also the seriousness with which the teachers are preparing their charges.
