GCA’s Carib Beer T20 division one cricket…GCC, Everest in winner’s row

A robust 72 from left-hander Chris Deonarine went to waste as GYO lost to GCC while Shaheed Mohamed’s 41 was good enough to secure a last ball win for Everest against Malteenoes when the latest round of action in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Carib Beer T20 cricket tournament ended at the Malteenoes ground Sunday.
Deonarine hammered three fours and seven sixes and got support from teenage pacer Garfield DeRoche who made a quick-fire 35, while former West Indies under-19 batsman Kwame Crosse made a cameo 31 on a good track and fast outfield.
National under-15 all-rounder Ronaldo Ali Mohamed bagged 3-35 from three overs for GCC who replied with 167-5 to win by five wickets half way through the last over.
On another sunny day in the city, Robin Bacchus celebrated his call up to the Guyana Amazon Warriors team with a typically pugnacious 46 with seven fours and a six. Gavin Singh made 47 with five fours and two sixes while the 15-year-old Mohamed contributed 21.
In the afternoon game Shaheed Mohamed led Everest to 146-8 before they bowled out the home team for 135 off the last ball of the 29th over in a nail biting finish.
Khemraj Ramdeen made 40 and Troy Gonsalves 26 also chipped in with the bat as off-spinner Vishal Narayan and Kelon Carmichael picked up three wickets for the Thomas Lands unit.
Christopher Surrat took 3-23 and Riyad Sattaur had 2-14 for the Camp Road team. (S.Devers)
