Ishmael hits 96, 5 wkt hauls for Kirton, Benn, Mahadeo and Jaigobin
Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) and Police recorded victories when the latest round of matches in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/Noble House Seafoods second division 2-day tournament concluded Sunday.
At MYO, the host defeated Transport Sports Club (TSC) by 59 runs. MYO took first strike and posted 192 all out in 38.4 overs. Safeek Ishmeal stroked sixteen fours and one six in a top score of 96, while Parsram Parmanand and Abdul Kumar supported with 28 and 26 respectively. Devon Nandan claimed 3-19, Shawn Massiah 3-83 and Kevin Ross 2-15.
TSC were bowled out for 132 in 28.2 overs in reply, after lunch on the first day. Azeem Azeez cracked 49 (9×4) and Sunil Singh 28. Parmanand returned to capture 4-9; Ishmael snared 4-50 and Chien Gittens 2-34.
Enjoying a lead of 60, MYO scored 171 all out in 63 overs batting a second time. Kumar led with 69, Imran Ayube contributed 24 and Gittens 19. Thirteen year old off spinner Joel Spooner grabbed 4-34 from 15.3 overs and Jonathan Alphonso 3-22 off seven. Set 232 for victory, TSC were bowled out for 172 in their second innings. Sunil Singh made 41, Charwayne McPherson 23 and Keon Morris 23. Deon Mahadeo bagged 5-51 from 12.4 overs.
At GNIC, Police overcame the host by 111 runs. The visitors batted first and scored 238 all out in 44.4 overs. Vishal Jaigobin slammed 70 (15×4) while Pernell London supported with 38, Stephan Blacks made 36 and Eric Angel 24. Leg spinner Orlando Kirton bagged 5-64 from 10.4 overs while Anthony Ifill took 2-13 and Premchand Sookdeo 2-63.
GNIC responded with 217 before they were bowled out in 48 overs. Jermaine Grosvenor slammed 60 (9×4,1×6), Anthony Ifill smashed 59 (13×4) and Stephan Campbell 37 (5×4). Troy Benn captured 5-52 from 21 overs and Kenton Grumble 2-52.
Leading by 21, Police were bowled out for 171 in 34 overs in their second turn at the crease.
Jaigobin continued his good form with 50 (10×4), Pernell London made 41 (8×4) and Reginald Rodrigues 24 (4×4). Ronale Bourne snared 4-20 and Kirton 2-28. Set 193 to win, GNIC were skittled for 81 in 18 overs. Campbell blasted 43 (9×4); Jaigobin picked up 5-12 and Benn 3-12.
