United Bike Shop’s Orville Hinds rode to victory in the 3rd annual Powerade 50-Mile cycle road race which was contested yesterday on the West Demerara.
Hinds completed the distance in One Hour 56 Minutes 55 Seconds to win, riding a smart race. Last year’s winner, Robin Persaud had to settle for the fourth place, Paul De Nobrega was second, Rastaff O’Selmo did well to place third.
The fifth and sixth positions were occupied by Albert Philander and Godfrey Pollydore, respectively. The prime prizes were shared between Hinds, Hamza Eastman, O’Selmo, Delroy Hinds, Raymond Newton, Pollydore, De Nobrega and Persaud with one apiece.
Michael Anthony maintained his status as the number one junior with victory again in this category. Alanzo Ambrose and Raul Leal followed in that order.
Talim Shaw won the veteran class with Ian Jackson and Davendra Ramnarine second and third. Ozia Macullay, Lennon Dick and Clyde Jacobs placed in that order in the mountain bike section turning back at Uitvlugt having started with the others at the Wales Police Station.
The senior riders travelled all the way to Bushy Park on the East Bank of Essequibo before returning for the finish at Scoonorde just off the Demerara Harbour.
Marketing Manager of Banks DIH, Ms. Jennifer Khan, in remarks thanked the riders for coming out noting that she was impressed with the high turnout. She committed Banks DIH to continuing their support for the sport.
