Jovan Wilson and Kelly-Ann Latchman have withdrawn from the Miss World Guyana Pageant.
Wilson told this publication that she will no longer be a part of the pageant due to a health related issue which requires that she not be under “any additional pressure.”
The former contestant said, “I enjoyed a wonderful relationship with the Miss World Guyana Committee but I was not ready for the stage. I had to lose ten pounds and I recently found out about a medical issue which requires that I not put myself under too much stress or pressure.”
Miss Latchman however said that she wished not to discuss the details of her decision but said that due to personal reasons she would not be able to give “100 % to the pageant.”
Nevertheless, The Miss World Guyana Committee through a public notification thanked both Ms. Latchman and Ms. Wilson for their participation and wished them well in their future endeavors.
The Miss World Guyana pageant is set for Independence Day – May 26. According to the Committee, “The Pageant is a platform to enable personal and professional growth of contestants in addition to the promotion of community service, beauty, fitness and talent. Participation in the pageant affords young women the opportunity to raise awareness on issues and causes affecting their communities as they serve as Regional Beauty & Goodwill Ambassadors of our great nation.”
It added, “The Miss World pageant is the first international pageant that Guyana achieved repeated successes in. As a result, Guyana is known for having one of the longest consecutive placements in the history of the Miss World pageant. On May 26th, 2013, Natasha Martindale was awarded the franchise from Miss World Chairwoman & CEO, Julia Morley.”
When contacted yesterday by this publication, Martindale was able to confirm
Wilson’s reasons for leaving the pageant. However, she did not provide any comment on Latchman’s decision to no longer participate.
