A 38-year-old-man who in 2012 was accused of having sex with his 11-year-old stepdaughter eighteen months ago is now set to face a Judge and Jury for the offence.
Yesterday, Frank Cur was committed to stand trial at the High Court at the next sitting of the Demerara Assizes by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, after she found that a sufficient case was made out against him.
Cur was in 2012 indicted on a Rape of a Child under 16 charge. The offence was alleged to have been committed on October 2, 2012 at his Lot 125 North East La Penitence, Georgetown home.
The case was heard at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and prosecuted by Corporal Bharat Mangru.
And, another man from Vreed-en-Hoop, West Bank of Demerara was yesterday brought before the courts to be indicted for raping his 10-year-old stepdaughter.
He faced three counts of Rape of a Child under 16 before the Chief Magistrate and was remanded to prison until April 8. His case was prosecuted by Inspector Michael Grant.
The Prosecutor explained that the man, the child and her mother lived together at Vreed-en-Hoop, West Bank Demerara. He said that the child slept one bedroom while her mother and stepfather shared another.
The particulars of the case state that during the night the man would reportedly leave his wife’s bed pretending that he needed to use the washroom, slip into the young girl’s bed and have sexual intercourse with her.
The Inspector told the court that this occurred three times during the month of December, last.
According to the Prosecution, the child confided to one of her aunts who subsequently took her to be examined by a doctor.
The doctor found that she was “sexual active” and the aunt subsequently reported the matter to the police.
