The second annual International Food and Drink Festival Guyana (iFest 2014), the largest epicurean event in Guyana was launched, recently, at the Cara Lodge Hotel in Georgetown.
iFest 2014 which will be held on April 19 (Easter Saturday) at the Everest Cricket Club Ground at Camp Road and Carifesta Avenue in Thomas Lands, Georgetown was officially launched by Mr. Indranauth Haralsingh, Director of Tourism.
He was deputizing for Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Irfaan Ali.
Mr. Haralsingh said that the Guyana Tourism Authority and the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce are keen to collaborate with and endorse this international gastronomic festival. The success of the previously held one that was hosted on March 30, 2013 is motivation enough, he said.
This year’s festival would be even more delightful and successful with even additional great food from a larger range of countries and an even more amazing variety of beverages to be enjoyed by patrons, all a part of an effort into making Guyana a premier destination for good food, superior rum, beer and other beverages and excellent entertainment.
Waynewright Orderson, Vice President and Communications Advisor of the Guyana Karate College, the co-coordinator of the International Food and Drink Festival thanked the Ministry of Tourism and the sponsors for supporting iFest 2014 the second such gourmet safari.
He said that the International Food and Drink Festival or iFest will be all about sampling and savoring fine cuisine and spirits from many countries from around the globe, meeting new friends and enjoying the diverse live on stage entertainment at this epicurean festival of Guyana.
Orderson said that last year, ‘Delicious’, ‘Sumptuous’ Savory’, or just simply, “delightful’ were some of the words used by patrons to describe the great food, and the amazing variety of beverages that were enjoyed by patrons of the first ‘International Food and Drink Festival Guyana (iFest 2013).
He said that for this second year of the festival, more and more chefs will be involved, with the event growing from strength to strength, creating the authenticity of the Guyanese experience of food and culture and blending that with a dynamic sampling of culinary creations from around the world.
Also addressing the launch was the High Commissioner of India, Mr. Tirath Singh, who traced the Guyanese experience of food and culture and its blending with the dynamic culinary creations from around the world.
He expressed the pleasure of his High Commission and other foreign missions to be a part of this worthwhile event. He added that the intention of the Indian Cultural Centre is to contribute to the cultural performances that will form part of the live stage show of the event.
