A number of cricket competitions are being played in Berbice currently. One such competition is the Shameer Baksh Memorial U-17 cricket competition for teams on the West Coast of Berbice.
There were some outstanding performances in the third and fourth rounds of matches that were played over the last weekend.
Scores in the games were – at Blairmont: Berbice Bridge Company Blairmont (BBCB) beat Achievers by an innings and 21 runs. Blairmont batted first and made 175 all out with Javid Karim 46, Mohamed Sibdhanny 29 and Shimar Flats 24 the top scorers.
Bowling for Achievers, Troy Webster and Randy Wade picked up three wickets. Achievers in their first innings were bundled out for 74. Bowling for BBCB, Javid Karim with 5 and Sachin Veersammy 3 were the wreckers. Achievers in their second knock fell for 80 with Veersammy 5 and Shimar Flats 3 wickets, doing the damage.
At Bush Lot West Coast Berbice: Bush Lot beat Shieldstown by 10 wickets. Shieldstown batted first and made 118 all out with Satish Razach 38 and Kevin Claudius 30. Bowling for Bush Lot Wayne Joseph snared 4wickets. In their first knock at the crease they reached 147 all out.
Bowling for Shieldstown Razach with 4wickets got support from Rohan Jailall with 2. Shieldstown in their second innings were bundled out for 47 with Imran Khan 4 wickets and Wayne Joseph 3 being the destroyers. Bush Lot in their second innings reached 22 without loss.
At Shieldstown: Achievers beat Shieldstown by an innings and 112 runs. Shieldstown 64 all out with Mahesh Ramroop 4 and Jason Johashen 3 being the top bowlers for Achievers who then raced to 217-5 with Jason Johashen 74, Mahesh Ramroop 68 and Randy Wade 28 being the principal scorers.
Bowling for Shieldstown, Annan Khan took 3 wickets as Shieldstown were then skittled out for 41 in their second innings with Randy Wade 5 wickets and Jason Johashen 2 wickets being the wreckers.
At Cotton Tree: Berbice Bridge Company Blairmont continued their good showing by whipping Cotton Tree by an innings and 65 runs. Blairmont compiled 214-8 with Shimar Flats 62 Saheed Khan 33 and Javid Karim 29 the top scorers. Bowling for Cotton Tree, Linardo Seetayah took 4 wickets. They were then bowled over for 71 and 78 in their two knocks at the crease with Rameshwar Somwaru destroying the batting with 5 wickets in each innings, while Seon Glasgow and Sachin Veersammy with 3 each supported.
At Bush Lot: Bush Lot won first innings point from Cotton Tree, Bush Lot 121 all out with Harold Singh and Tamesh Dhanraj 20 runs each being the top scorers. Allan Chesney with 4 wickets and Krishna Arjune with 3 did the damage. Cotton Tree in their first innings made 64 all out; Wayne Joseph 4 and Kris Ramnarine 2 wickets respectively doing the damage. Bush Lot in their second innings declared at 99 for 2 with Dhanraj 55 not out. Cotton Tree lost an early wicket in their second innings.
